Under the supervision of the Building Official, the Building Inspector inspects all construction to ensure compliance with the IBC (International Building Code), the IRC (International Residential Code) and all other building/zoning codes and ordinances adopted by Clarendon County. Inspects construction of new and remodeled homes; Inspects the tie-down and utility connections for manufactured homes to ensure compliance with state regulations; Checks setbacks of proposed construction for compliance with the requirements of the Unified Development Code; Issues notices for corrective action when Code violations are discovered; Issues construction permits; Maintains accurate and current inspection records; Must be able to read and understand the IRC, IBC, UDC and all other codes and ordinances adopted for enforcement by Clarendon County; Must be able to read maps and understand directions to sites. Issues building permits and collects fees. Requires a high school diploma and a minimum of three years of experience in building code inspection activity or a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in building construction, preferably as a licensed contractor; State Certified Building Inspector preferred; Must possess a valid SC driver’s license. Reports to the Building Official.
